Stow on the Wold’s busy town square is being resurfaced as part of the county council’s £150 million promise to upgrade Gloucestershire’s roads.

The Square, a prime location for residents and businesses in Stow, is in need of essential resurfacing due to the road deteriorating and reaching the end of its life.

To ensure this work is completed as efficiently as possible a road closure will be in place from 5pm on Sunday April 15 until 5pm Friday April 20 when the scheme will be finished.

Work hours will be 7.00am to 5.00pm, but the closure will be in place around the clock due to the location of the works, with no parking or through traffic for the duration.

Cllr Vernon Smith, cabinet member for highways and flood, said: “This important scheme highlights our continued investment to keep the county moving. I’d like to reassure residents that we’ll minimise the disruption as much as possible and thank them for their patience.”

Cllr Nigel Moor, county councillor for Stow-on-the-Wold, said: “I’m very pleased The Square is being included in the new resurfacing programme. This is an important area of Stow and the resurfacing will have a significant benefit to the local community. The road has been slowly deteriorating so these improvements will help make the journey smoother for everyone.”

Limited parking will be available during the works however, to avoid disappointment, visitors are advised to use alternative car parks.

All businesses will be open as usual and pedestrian access will be maintained.

A Diversion will be via the A429, Sheep Street, Well Lane, Parson’s Corner and High Street.

The diversion is the same in reverse.
