A NAILSWORTH-BASED pie company has won yet more awards in a prestigious national competition.

Plenty! Pies won at the British Pie Awards (BPA) for the fifth year in a row, every single year it has entered.

Its Pheasant Chasseur pie won the award for highly commended in the speciality meat and game category; beating all the golds, silvers and bronzes.

The family business also won bronzes for its tartiflette and vegetarian cheesy golden beef and bean pies.

More than 960 pies were entered by 180 producers. Marks for each pie were awarded out of 100 and to attain a gold, the pie has to score at least 90 marks.

More than 100 judges assess each entry for appearance, texture and flavour of both pastry and filling.

The British Pie Awards are hosted by Melton Mowbray Pork Pie Association (MMPPA).

Plenty! Pies founder Marc Birch was delighted the stores achievement.

“This year we entered the three pies of our current selection that we’d not entered before,” said Marc.

“Achieving awards for each of them means that every one of our fillings has now won an award, including class champion for our Breton Chicken and five highly commended awards.

“Every year it’s wonderful to have the endorsement of so many experts in the industry.”

Plenty! Pies specialises in gourmet fillings, comprising unusual combinations of ingredients.

Marc and his wife Kate started the company seven years ago.

The pies from the company are sold in a range of pubs, delicatessens, farm shops, garden centres and cafes, including Westmoreland M5 services and Daylesford Organics, throughout Gloucestershire, the South West and West Midlands.

They can also be bought at Stroud farmers’ market every Saturday and Cirencester farmers’ market twice a month.
