PLANS to narrow a road in Cam to single width in four places have been revealed as proposed traffic calming measures.

Amey has written to residents of Box Road asking for their views on the scheme which is associated with Taylor Wimpey’s The Halt development.

In four places on the stretch adjacent to the new estate it is proposed to install ‘priority build outs’ to restrict traffic into a single lane.

Letters sent out to residents living closest to The Halt were sent letters by Chris Townley of Amey Gloucestershire yesterday asking for them to give their views on the project by March 23.

Allan King, who lives in Box Road, said that reducing the street to single width would cause "total gridlock".

"This will cause total gridlock in Box Road at evening rush hour whenever a train leaves large passenger numbers at the station.

"At busy times the traffic queue can reach our house at the station end of box road.

"This can only get worse with traffic calming restrictions and when more houses get built."

Outline planning permission has already been awarded for a 450-home development which would build on the entire eastern side of Box Road.

Applications have also been submitted seeking permission for further housing developments on the western side.

The introduction of traffic calming measures was a requirement of the new estate being granted planning permission.

‘Build outs’ would be installed on alternating sides of the road except for at the end of The Halt closest to Box Road Avenue where they would be placed on both sides of the road.
