Police are investigating an alleged assault on a Lincoln City fan after their match against Forest Green.

The fan claims he was assaulted by a member of the Forest Green staff as the team borded the bus after their 2-1 defeat.

A Lincolnshire Police spokesman said: "We had a report from a man in his 40s at 9pm that he had been assaulted after the game.

"The incident involved someone from that bus. We have recorded this as a common assault and it is being investigated under incident 356 of December 30."

The fan has complained to police he was assaulted near the Forest Green team bus. He has also lodged a complaint with the Football Supporters' Federation.

But Forest Green have stated their members of staff were "attacked" in the incident.

The club tweeted on Saturday night: "The club are investigating reports that the team coach and members of staff were attacked as they left the Sincil Bank stadium this evening."

Helen Taylor, chief executive of Forest Green Rovers, said: "We are in contact with Lincoln City FC.

"We are both looking into the whole build up and what may or may not have happened at the time."
