CROWDS enjoyed a stunning fireworks display over Cirencester Parish Church after This Country stars Charlie and Daisy May Cooper switched on the town's Christmas lights.

The Advent Festival on Saturday, organised by Cirencester Town Council, began with the Advent Market during the day, which extended into Cricklade Street, Castle Street and Market Place.

There were local artists performing on stages, fair rides, a colouring competition and street food and drink.

The event culminated with the lights switch-on ceremony, welcoming the local stars who wrote and starred in the BBC Three comedy based in the Cotswolds.

As part of the switch-on ceremony, there was also a live premiere of ‘A Song for Cirencester’, written by the Barn Theatre's creative team.

The song was filmed on the evening, and will be released as a charity single with all proceeds going to mental health charities Cotswold Counselling and Mind.

Cirencester's Christmas Markets, named by Vogue as one of the best markets in the country, will be held on Saturday, December 16 and Sunday 17, 10am to 5pm.
