A CIRENCESTER-based wood supplier gave the equivalent of 92 meals to the local Foodbank to help people in crisis this Christmas.

Södra Wood Ltd on Tuesday, November 28, donated a hamper weighing 103kg, which is enough to feed ten people for ten days.

The donation was given to Cirencester Foodbank representative, Rachel Brindley, who will see it reach those most in need.

Last year, Cirencester Foodbank gave out almost 3,000 hampers to locally qualifying families.

Cirencester Foodbank works with The Trussell Trust to combat hunger and poverty across the UK.

Each hamper they give provides nutritionally balanced emergency supplies which can last for three days.

Struggling families can claim one with a voucher given by doctors, health workers and social workers.

A simple box of food makes a big difference and foodbanks are known to reduce the risk of crime, family breakdown and health problems.

Jeremy English, sales director at Södra said: “I think it’s important that we chose to support a cause close to our doorstep. The idea was suggested by one of our team, and everyone else embraced the idea and wanted to take part.

"They are so passionate about building a better world - not only by promoting a more sustainable future for construction through timber - but by promoting personal responsibility for a better world through individual action.”
