NUMBER plates from cars have recently been tampered with in South Cerney.

Offenders unscrewed and stole the rear number plate from a car parked in the Morgans Terrace area between Friday, September 1 and Sunday, November 19.

And between 2am and 3am on Saturday, November 18, a car on a driveway in the Berkeley Close area had its front number plate tampered with, the screws were loosened.

The car owner was woken up by her dog barking and the sound of tyres screeching.

They have found tyre marks on the driveway. Near to the car, a new different number plate was left in situ. In appears that the offenders may have been preparing to swap the index plates and steal the car.

If you suffer a theft similar to these, report it to the police as the plates may be used to change the identity of a similar vehicle and then used to commit crime somewhere.
