Cirencester Men’s 1st XI 1
Whitchurch A 3

CIRENCESTER’S senior men’s side visited fourth-placed Whitchurch with confidence high after their first win of the campaign but were disappointed to concede in the first five minutes, writes Chris Pollard.

Keeper Kit Lamb was suspended temporarily for a wild challenge, but the defence held firm while he was off the pitch.

A well-worked penalty corner saw new-joiner Gabriel Jones score to draw the side level. With five minutes remaining a draw looked inevitable, but Whitchurch had other ideas scoring two goals in the space of three minutes.

An imperious defensive display from Harry Whittle saw him secure MoM.

Cirencester 2nd XI 0
Stroud A 1

IN A tense local derby Cirencester and Stroud played attacking hockey with both sides coming close in the first half.

Steve Foster, supported by Pete Willett, was solid at central defence and despite hard running from Oscar Snowball and Robbie Webster chances went begging.

A speculative Stroud cross into the Cirencester circle was missed leaving a grateful centre forward an easy tap-in to score the match’s only goal.

Cirencester 3rd XI 1
Cheltenham C 9

CIRENCESTER’S 3rd XI faced the daunting prospect of a full, and fit, Cheltenham C squad who are currently leading the league.

Cirencester were unable to cope with the pace of play and were 7-0 down at half time.

As has often happened, Cirencester produced a more mature and controlled second half. A Dave Hall strike from a penalty corner with two further goals from Cheltenham left the final result 9-1.

Ben McIntyre’s tireless work rate secured him a well-deserved Man of the Match.

Cirencester 4th XI 0
Cheltenham D 1

IN A tight match that saw veteran goalkeeper Dave Webb return from a fractured hand, Cirencester’s 4th XI were unable to reply to Cheltenham D’s first-half goal, despite Rav Hansra coming close.
