FIREWORKS celebrations across north Wiltshire went off with a bang at the weekend as the area marked Bonfire Night.

In Malmesbury, hundreds of residents descended on St Aldhelm’s Mead for the annual celebrations.

Organiser Keith Maslin said the event was a great success.

“It went very well”, he said.

“It was a good turnout and a healthy amount of money was raised for charity.”

Malmesbury Bonfire Committee have launched a photo competition and are asking people who attended to submit their best pictures.

The winning entry will get their photo used on next year’s posters and receive free admission to the 2018 fireworks display.

Victoria Sheppard, who submitted her picture, said: “We thought it was a lovely event! It was our first bonfire night in Malmesbury.

“We were really impressed and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

Mikey Bain, who has also submitted an entry, said: “I thought it was a good event with a really good display this year, the general consensus was it was the best so far and was nice to hear that all the proceeds went to local charities.”

David Mitchell, who attended Minety’s display, said: “It was very good - its been going for years there and is always fun.”
