It is always interesting to hear more about the pieces published in Nostalgia from people who remember them the first time around!

PAMELA Porter contacted the Standard to try to find out more about a Nostalgia story we printed on July 6. The story involved a Cirencester woman who would put the record ‘Meet Me At The Corner’ on to let the man who she was ‘associating with’ know when the coast was clear.

One day in 1957, her husband allegedly laid in wait and attacked the lover.

“One of the men mentioned was my father (I’m not sure which one) and the woman was my mother,” Pamela explained.

“A very turbulent divorce followed which I believe was front page of the Wilts and Glos Standard.

“It is amusing yet sad that these three human beings were responsible for bringing 18 children into the world – it couldn’t be made up!”

LATER in the month, Richard C Lord from Compton Abdale sent us photographs he took at the re-opening of Rendcomb’s airfield in 1991 as a base for vintage aircraft, which was featured on July 20.

“It was a very enjoyable event,” he said. “Sadly, I do not recall it being repeated in subsequent years.”

I HAD several calls letting me know that residents recognised the unnamed boys with brollies up in Cirencester swimming pool in 1976, also printed on July 20.

THEN on July 27 we included a 1957 story about Arthur and Agnes Hunt who found themselves in Stow Magistrates Court after borrowing a motorcycle just three days after their wedding.

The Hunts contacted us to let us know that they’re “still here” and celebrating “60 years of good marriage.”

Have the couple kept themselves out of trouble since?

“More or less,” Mr Hunt chuckled.
