A BOURTON-on-the-Water footballer has entered a popular ITV television show.

Chris Hughes, 24, who plays for Bourton Rovers, entered Love Island last Wednesday.

In the show, couples are matched up in a bid to win £50,000 of prize money.

In an interview with ITV, Chris called himself a "country boy", saying it would give the women on the show "a different option to what they're normally used to".

Brought up traditionally, Chris wants to take it back to old-school methods of getting to know people, and find a woman who is "well suited" for him.

He said that he was an "old fashioned romantic" and likes to treat women with hidden letters, theatre shows and long weekends away.

His head coach, Scott Powles said: "Chris is a bubbly lad and one of many boys that creates such a strong togetherness within our club "His entry into Love Island was a big surprise for us as he hadn’t mentioned it at all.

"We are hoping that this will really raise the profile of our club and interest from local people and businesses to help us develop.

"The club are 100 percent behind Chris in his bid to win the £50,000 prize money from Love Island.

"The club would like everyone locally and beyond to support Chris in his bid to win as he is a local lad.

"He is always willing to support the club on and off the field and all its members so as to improve Bourton Rovers FC for everyone. He is a true gentleman and a clubman."

The programme is aired on Monday to Friday at 9pm on ITV 2 and has millions of fans.
