JACK TAYLOR won the battle of the Gloucestershire 1st XI players when making his debut for WEPL club side Lechlade CC on Saturday.

A full-strength Lechlade, augmented by Taylor, gained their finest win of the season by beating league leaders Downend by 64 runs in Bristol.

And Taylor took the wicket of his Gloucestershire cohort Ian Cockbain, who has been in scintillating form for Downend, for just 10.

Lechlade batted deep to score 232 all out and Downend never looked like reeling in the total.

Lechlade's teenage spinner Harvey Jupp matched Taylor's two wickets, his strikes coming in an opening double wicket maiden.
