CIRENCESTER Golf Club's Adrian Ruskell will attempt to go one better than fellow member James Harding when he starts his bid for the prestigious Lombard Trophy, the PGA National Pro-Am Championship, on Tuesday.

Ruskell earned the right to play alongside his club pro Ed Goodwin, at the qualifying round of the Lombard Trophy being held at Little Aston Golf Club near Birmingham on Tuesday (June 6) when winning his club's April Medal with a net 63.

The ultimate aim will be to make it through to the £41,450 grand final in Portugal which is being held at the Vila Sol resort in the Algarve from September 21-22.

Last year, Goodwin, who has been a professional at Cirencester for 12 years. and Harding led the 36-hole final with two holes to play only to be pipped by a single shot.

Ruskell, 55, a business energy consultant from Cheltenham, plays off a handicap of 18.
