A LANDLORD has appealed against the refusal of an application to convert Bourton Newsagent to a hot food takeaway.

The controversial plan to convert Bourton-on-the-Water’s last remaining newsagents into a takeaway was rejected by Cotswold District Council on December 14.

Councillors deemed an additional takeaway shop to be unbeneficial to the community.

The application received 136 letters of objection and in October last year, a 30-strong protest was staged outside the shop in support of the newsagent which had been in service for 70 years.

Despite the refusal of the application, the popular newsagent closed its doors in March after owner of the premises Les de la Haye decided not to renew the lease.

Mr de la Haye is now appealing against the decision to refuse the change of use.
