A FOUR-METRE deep sinkhole has appeared at a Cirencester primary school today.
Year 6 pupils from Powell’s Primary School put together the following report on the ‘catastrophic scene’ for the Standard.
ON Wednesday, February 1, at approximately 8am, a sinkhole appeared in the KS1 playground of Powell’s C of E Primary School.
This affected the pupils and teachers at the school.
At the present time, they are uncertain about why it has occurred. Theories include: recent flood defence works; collapsing pipework or soggy ground.
Parents and children were unable to access the playground after arriving this morning.
The school staff already have builders on the case, but it may take some time to sort the problem out.
This hole has caused many problems, including the fact that KS1 children are having to use the KS2 playground.
The school had to rearrange its timetable accordingly.
After witnessing this catastrophic scene, y6 children were informed by the work-men that the hole was approximately 4m deep.
Hannah Strongitharm, aged 10, said that it was strange how quickly the hole had appeared.
Thomas Taylor, 11, announced: “Hopefully the hole will not get any bigger, otherwise it might affect our learning.”
The school hopes that the hole can be fixed as soon as possible so that uninterrupted learning can continue.
