A 25-YEAR-OLD man from Cirencester will stand trial accused of burgling a house and robbing a woman at a cash machine.

Adam Saunders appeared at Gloucester Crown Court on Friday and pleaded not guilty to burgling a house in Garden Court, Meadow Road, Cirencester, on October 16 last year and stealing a watch, aftershave and a knife.

Saunders, of no fixed address, also denied robbing Dorothy Humphries of £20 in Speringate on November 7 last year.

Jason Coulter, defending, said Saunders accepted stealing the money from Mrs Huphries by snatching it from her hand but denied that it was robbery.

"They were known to each other," he said. "He says he approached her. He knew she was drawing out money. He asked for it. He was not given it so he snatched it. "

Janine Wood, prosecuting, said that the Crown case was that Mrs Humphries was robbed of the money.

Judge Jamie Tabor QC remanded Saunders in custody to await the trial starting on February 27.
