CIRENCESTER Philharmonia Orchestra performed at new venue St. Peter’s Church for the first time last Saturday (October 15) to a sell-out audience.

Under the baton of Ian Higginson and the leadership of Emily Thomas, the 30-strong orchestra treated those in attendance to a programme of music by Haydn, Boyce, Beethoven and Schubert, with a standout performance from principal flautist Sharyn Wilson, the soloist in a rendition of Mozart’s Andante for Flute and Orchestra.

The group’s next concert will be on Saturday, April 29 at a venue to be announced.

Among other pieces, the upcoming concert will feature the music of Mendelsson.

The orchestra is still welcoming new players, especially those who play string instruments.
