A TRACTOR caught on fire on a road off the A419 near Kempsford yesterday, causing heavy smoke and major traffic delays.

It is believed the farm vehicle’s brakes caught fire, with the fire service responding to the call at 4.40pm on Thursday afternoon (August 26).

The road was closed while the tractor, which was completely burnt out, was recovered, and spilled diesel was removed.

A spokesman for Cotswold Police said: “We let the highways agency know so they could clear up the diesel. It is believed brakes caught fire.”

They said the tractor wasn’t carrying any hay at the time and the owner was moving the vehicle to another field.
