TETBURY’S The Snooty Fox is the sort of place where nothing really changes – and that’s definitely a good thing.

Every time I visit, there are the same customers, dogs and staff – it is clearly popular with Tetbury’s residents, and I could see why.

I arrived at the pub at about noon on a Saturday and it was relatively quiet compared to the last few times I was there, which was later in the afternoon, but that allowed me to enjoy the traditional and tasteful decor, which gives “The Snoots” a cosy yet classy feel.

One small complaint on the atmosphere would be that there was a slightly “cliquey” vibe to begin with. By that, I mean that there were mainly regular customers who seemed to know bar staff very well which, of course, is not surprising in a town like Tetbury or necessarily a bad thing, it just means new faces may feel a little like outsiders if they arrive at a quiet time.

However, an hour-and-a-half later, the pub began to fill up with people who appeared to be first-time customers and the staff were very friendly, much to their credit.

For lunch, I ordered a spiced venison burger with bacon, sweet onion chutney, cheddar, tomato and pickle, served with chips and a range of burger sauces.

It was thoroughly enjoyable and just what I needed to satiate my hunger.

The fully cooked venison burger was not too tough and bursting with flavour from the spices, cheddar and sweet onion chutney.

I do not normally prefer burgers or steaks fully cooked, but I long ago resigned myself to the fact that most pubs do meat “well done”, and I could only applaud the chef on a job well done (apologies for the terrible pun).

I must also applaud the portion sizes served at The Snooty Fox. They definitely did not hold back on the chips and I left the pub feeling completely full and satisfied. As we all know, there is nothing worse than leaving a restaurant still feeling hungry, no matter how great the food was.

My lunch cost £14.75, which is not bad, really.

The pub classics, sandwiches, drinks, teas and coffees offered at the Fox are all reasonably affordable, although I do have to question the prices of some of the starters, mains, desserts, and perhaps the “nibbles”.

To drink, I had a pint of Stowford cider, which was crisp and refreshing and a fair price at £3.90, and I was pleased to see a wide selection of drinks, including locally produced tipples, on offer at the bar.

As you will have guessed by now, The Snooty Fox is an excellent pub and comes highly recommended.
