Cirencester Athletics and Triathlon Club
Staverton '10', Cheltenham, 10 miles road
TONY SHELBOURN does it again. This time his superb run in the first ever Staverton 10 brought him in as first MV70, created an inaugural Cirencester AC record for the age group and resulted in his being rated second in the national Power of 10 rankings.
This matches his second placing in the national rankings for five miles established last week. The reappearance of a fast 10-mile road race in the area resulted in a blizzard of PBs enjoyed by the majority of the field, including Mark Sysum (first home for Cirencester), Mark Glunning and Neil Corbiere.
Club coach Sysum's training in preparation for the London Marathon is clearly reaping benefits, although Howard Ewan might be well placed to counsel him on potential problems caused by over training.
Not content with running a fast 10 miles, the four younger members completed a third five-mile lap as a cool down. Another good start for 2016.
RESULTS: 1, Will Ferguson (CLC Striders) 54.21; 21, Mark Sysum 1:02.19; 34, Howard Ewan 1:06.03; 43, Mark Glunning 1:07.11; 45, Neil Corbiere 1:07.32; 64, Tony Shelbourn 1:11.56 (first MV70, inaugural club MV70 record); 151, Barbara Thomas 1:32.50. 176 finished.
Swindon Parkrun, 5km trail
IT was a quiet week for parkruns with Barbara Thomas the only club member to run at Swindon before turning out again on Sunday to complete another event towards her target of 100 races over the year.
RESULTS: 1, Paul Ryan (Swindon Striders) 18.13; 192, Barbara Thomas 27.15. 435 finished.
