I DID not see that coming. We were exceptionally poor and I can take no positives from that performance at all.

We had won two out of three before that and kept a couple of clean sheets.

For the first time in weeks we had four proper defenders, stability and energy in midfield and some genuine width up front.

For once I thought we had all the right pegs in the right holes.

There had been a lot more noise and character about training in the week and the warm-up was bright and lively.

To concede within three minutes was not part of the plan and the soft goal just seemed to knock us for six.

I felt sorry for new keeper Jack Stevens – he’s let in five and did not have the chance to make a save. We’ll get to know something about his character in the next game.

We had a go at them at half-time and we got a reaction as you would expect and it might have got to 4-4. But then we let in another soft goal at the end.

You can rant and rave at half-time and then rage at full time, but that is not always the best policy as they can put their fingers in their ears.

So we will pick them up and dust them all down at training this week.

But if I was a sub on the bench watching that I would expect to be involved in the next game – or wonder what I am doing at the club.

We wanted to be on the front foot at home against St Neots but at Chesham on Saturday we will perhaps go with a more workmanlike side.

Unfortunately Ellis Dunton is still unavailable being one game short of completing his three-match Hellenic ban. The Development side have not been able to fulfil any fixtures since January 23.
