CIRENCESTER ABC's Jimmy McDonagh has stormed into the quarter finals of the England Boxing Youth Championships in Rotherham on February 12 after successfully coming through two bouts in the northern division.

McDonagh's first opponent was Ethan Liffe from Watchet ABC. McDonagh won after the ref stopped the contest 10 seconds into the second round.

Boxing a week later, McDonagh's opponent was Sam Elvins from Paddy John's ABC in Bristol and McDonagh won on a unanimous points decision.

The youngster went through to the Western Counties finals in Newquay, stopping Brandon Staycey from Devonport ABC.

After an all-action first round, the referee stopped the bout in the second round as Staycey's nose would not stop bleeding.

Cirencester ABC coach Tom Boswell said: "Jimmy is looking good and I'm excited to see what happens next.''

Cirencester ABC also had two of their talented youngsters boxing in Bristol on Saturday at a show hosted by Barton Hill ABC.

John Varey won a unanimous points decision against Mitchel Turner from Golden Ring ABC, while Jordan Wall lost on a split decision against Connor Daly from Harrow and District ABC.

Cirencester ABC coach Simon Knowles said ''Fair play to Johnny, he's beating some of the top boys out there. Now we need to up our game and take this to the championships.

Jordan was very unlucky not to get the decision, he did very well.''
