CIRENCESTER racer Kurtis Drew says he’s hoping to return to competitive action after recovering from a freak accident which left him with a broken left tibia and severe ligament damage.

The 19-year-old has been working hard on his rehabilitation to achieve his long- term goal of trying out at the British Superbike Championships.

“I’ve been taking extra steps to improve my weekly diet and I’ve spent hard-earned money on training to continue my development,” Drew revealed.

The Thundersport rider admitted there was only a slim chance of him making a lucrative career on the circuits, but would do everything in his power to achieve it.

Through the help of family and friends in recent months, Drew has since been back on a bike winter testing at the indoor-tracks as of December 2015, and was under no illusions how selfless people have been to aid him in his recovery.

“Without a doubt, my mum, dad and sister have been incredible in their support during my injury. I can’t thank them enough. Also, my sponsors (Ducksmart, Autofix and family friends John & Sandy Curtis) for sticking by me, I’m eternally grateful,” he added.

Drew spent seven months on the recovery trail after being left injured from a freak accident while entering the grid at the Aprilia RRV 450 Championship round at Snetterton.

He and his family had to cover damages which will greatly hamper their attempt this racing season.

Not one to wallow in self-pity, the Cirencester racer is hoping to practice at the Pembrey Circuit in Wales.

His new bike, a Yamaha R6, is bigger and more powerful and could help him develop into a frontrunner racer.

“I want to progress my skill, develop myself as a rider and be good enough to try out at the British Superbike Championships. I’m putting everything I can into doing this.”
