CARS parking on a bridge in Cirencester are continuing to cause chaos for motorist despite the placement of signs that threaten that they will be towed for doing so.

For several months cars have been parking on and near the bridge over the bypass on Bristol Road and Sheep Street just outside the town centre, causing poor visibility for drivers.

Last week signs were placed on the bridge that advised drivers they would be towed away if they parked there between January and March but they are  still parking there in numbers.

Cirencester Town Council councillor for the Watermoor ward, Jenny Hincks believes that the work is being carried out by the county council to repair the bridge and said the parked cars are making visibility so bad that an accident is imminent.

Cllr Hinks explained that she called the police yesterday to report that a van was parked near the bridge was making it impossible for drivers to see oncoming vehicle.

The councillor explained that she also witnessed a double decker bus bring traffic to a standstill when it was unable to pass cars on the bridge and was forced to turn around.

The county council said it will be able to provide a comment tomorrow.
