Fairford Town 3 Clanfield '85' 0

FAIRFORD TOWN returned to winning ways in style with a 3-0 win against Clanfield 85 at Cinder Lane on Saturday, writes Chris Tanner.

The visitors made the brighter start but with their first real attack on nine minutes Fairford took the lead.

A terrific one-two saw Danny Hale set winger Jason Milhench away down the left and he calmly placed the ball into the bottom corner for a dream start.

Fairford grew in confidence, with Luke Cordery having a header from a corner cleared off the line.

The pressure told when, after more great wing play by Milhench, Scott Chilcott finished off from close range to double the score.

Milhench, who was causing all kinds of problems for the visiting defence, almost made it three soon after but his shot was well saved.

Ben Mitchell was called into action as Clanfield had a spirited end to the first half, making a couple of good stops to keep the half-time score at 2-0.

Clanfield continued where they left off at the start of the second half and Marland should have reduced the arrears on 52 minutes but somehow contrived to miss from a yard out.

Fairford never really looked in trouble after that with new signing Sam Mepham breaking up many of the Clanfield attacks and James Townsend marshalling the side well at the back with some towering headers.

Jack Allen was introduced with ten minutes to go and with his first touch headed home a corner to seal the win.
