Wiltshire Police have issued an appeal for witnesses after a 21-year-old man was seriously injured in a road traffic collision on the M4 at the weekend.

Police were called to the M4 westbound between junctions 15 and 16 at approximately 2.13am on Sunday, August 9, following a report that a black Vauxhall Astra had left the carriageway, colliding with a barrier before coming to rest down the embankment.

The driver, from the Bristol area, was taken to Southmead Hospital in Bristol, where his condition is described as serious.

Lane one of the M4 was closed for approximately six hours to allow for a thorough investigation to take place, as well as recovery for the vehicle.

Anyone who saw the vehicle prior to the incident, or anyone who witnessed the collision, should call PC Will Ayres on 101, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where information can be left anonymously if preferred.
