COTSWOLD District council is taking legal action in an attempt to move on travellers from the Beeches Car Park in Cirencester.
Many of the travellers caravans and cars arrived at the car park at the weekend.
The council has received numerous reports that the group is having a negative impact on local residents, businesses and motorists who use the car park.
And despite attempts by the council to move the travellers they still remain in the car park.
A spokesman for Cotswold District Council, Bob McNally, said: “Unfortunately the council has been unable to secure agreement from the travellers to move on over the last few days, and we have therefore been left with no alternative but to take immediate legal action to regain possession of the car park.”
He added that season ticket holders for the Beeches car park can also use nearby Waterloo car park for an extended period - until Friday 3 July.
