Steve Mather (pictured left) is the new assistant editor. He was previously a news editor at the Oxford Mail and Worcester News.

Michael said: “We’re looking forward to building on the Standard’s excellent reputation and taking the
newspaper forward.”

Former Standard editor took early retirement last week after 33 years as a journalist in Gloucestersire and editor variously of the Stroud News and Journal, the Gloucestershire Gazette series and the Wilts & Glos Standard.

She said: "I would like to thank all who have helped and hindered me over the years. It has been exciting and fulfilling - most of the time. I wish you all good fortune."
