HANNAH TAPLEY has made a scintillating start to the athletics season by winning the U17 high jump title at the Midlands Indoor Championships in Birmingham.
Showing the value of her trip with an England Athletics party to compete in the Czech Republic last month, 16-year-old Hannah, from Lechlade, jumped a personal best of 1.75m. That gave her a 10-centimetre advantage over second-placed Natasha Smith, 15, from Stroud AC.
Last season Hannah won a string of championships in her age group including the England Athletics U17 indoor championships and the National ISA Championships as well as the Midlands counties and Wiltshire county titles.
In a good weekend for British women’s high jumping, Katarina Johnson-Thompson broke the British record when clearing 1.97m to successfully defend her British Indoor Championships title in Sheffield.
