Purton 1 Shortwood Utd Res 0
A JOE DOREY goal after 65 minutes gave Purton a 1-0 home win last Saturday which took their recent run of form to 10 points from a possible 12, writes Alan Eastwood.
Both sides put on an excellent show in what was a competitive game.
The first half saw both sides create three good chances each with Purton's Lee Toomey, Carson and Jerome Dodson going close, while Mills (twice) and Cant hit the woodwork for Shortwood.
For most of the second half Purton were in control with Ritchie Saunders and Carter going close.
The deadlock was broken soon after the hour mark when Dorey drove a partly-cleared corner over the keeper and into the net.
On 78 minutes, Dodson had a great chance to make the game safe but shot over the bar after a good run.
Shortwood pressed hard in the final 10 minutes looking for the equaliser but some excellent defending and three great saves by Purton keeper Johnny Cowley kept them out as the hosts climbed to fourth in the table.
