Cirencester 3 Burford 3
CIRENCESTER seniors had to settle for a draw against Burford in a well-contested match but did go on to gain a fine away win at The Worcestershire.
The opening clash was lost on the final green when Joe Maggs chipped in for a two and he and his captain Alex Ross prevailed by two up over Clive Bennett and John Thurston.
The next match also went to the last where John Pugh and David Neale went down by 2&1.
Mike Staples and Robert Evans were back in the clubhouse before anyone else strolling to a 7&6 victory.
John Canty and Ken Haines then put Cirencester on level terms with their 2-up win.
A loss in the penultimate match put the onus on David Findlay and Bob Allen in the last group to salvage a draw which they did with their 3&2 win.
The Worcestershire 3 Cirencester 4
PLAYED on a beautiful course – one of Britain's oldest and against the stunning background of the Malvern Hills – this away fixture is hugely popular with Cirencester players.
Usually, however, the result is a disappointment with the greens proving a real challenge.
When Cirencester lost the first three matches it looked like they were in for a drubbing but the cavalry came over the hill.
Gordon Stone and John Hall started the comeback with a 3&2 win and then John King and Chris Berens put paid to their opponents by a hefty 5&3.
Francis Sheppard, playing for the Seniors for the first time this season, partnered Dick Tugwell and they too had a comfortable 4&3 victory.
A remarkable turnaround was achieved when Geoff Southwell and Martin Taylor took the final match by 3&1.
