CIRENCESTER Golf Club seniors enjoyed mixed fortunes in two recent matches.
Cirencester 5
Stinchcombe Hill 3
SENIORS captain Clive Bennett and last year's captain Dave Findlay won the opening match which went to the last green where Findlay chipped in to secure the one-up victory.
A wide margin 5&4 win by John Morris and John Cross for Cirencester was followed by a wide margin reverse in the third leg.
Stinchcombe then levelled the match when Mike Staples and Mike Bishop lost one down. Cirencester won the next two matches – Bob Allen and Gerry Bruton taking their match 4&3 and John Thurston and John Anderson winning 3&2.
John Parsons and John Pugh were on the end of a narrow one-down defeat before Ian Hunter and Gordon Stone wrapped things up with a 2&1 victory.
Cotswold Hills 5
Cirencester 3
CIRENCESTER, although beaten, put up a good performance on a course where they are usually outsmarted by the home team's local knowledge.
All matches except one were closely contested and went to the 17th or 18th hole.
Wins came for Gerry Bruton and John Anderson (2up) and John King and Geoff Southwell (1up).
Patrick Moylan and David Neale were denied a full point when their opponents chipped in at the last. A half was also earned by Graham Morgan and John Pugh.
