COUNCILLORS have today voted to cut £250,000 from Wiltshire youth service’s budget rather than the expected £500,000.
The Liberal Democrat group put forward an amendment to Wiltshire Council’s budget, voted on today at County Hall, that called for £100,000 savings on printed paperwork, an efficiency review of youth centre buildings that could shave off a further £125,000 and a cash injection of £25,000 from the councillors’ development fund.
The unitary authority’s original budget called for a £500,000 cut, which meant up to 140 staff redundancies and the closure of the county’s youth centres.
