NURSES who have passed the course at Cirencester Hospital State Enrolled Nurse Training School were presented with prizes and certificates by Cyril Staite, vice chairman of Cirencester Urban District Council at a prize giving and reunion at the King’s Head Ballroom on Saturday.

Miss L E Holt chairman of the Education Committee of the Swindon, Cirencester and District Hospital’s Management Committee said that since the last prize giving, many changes had occurred at both the Memorial Hospital and at Watermoor and many new installations had been introduced in order to contain the increasing work load. The newly amalgamated Swindon and Cirencester Hospital Management Committee had had many initial teething troubles she said but they now had a far greater amount of administrative and technical know-how to draw upon.

She hoped that the system of visiting committees which had replaced the old house committees would be useful in forming a liaison between the public, staff and management committee.

Miss Holt emphasised the need for more male and female nurses in all grades and from all age groups and thanked everyone who had given time and experience to the training of nurses.

Miss A E McNeill, Matron of the Memorial Hospital said she was glad to welcome guests to the fifth presentation to nurses and to say that the nurses’ school was in a very good state of health. A full quota of 24 nurses were in training at the moment and she was glad to say that the high standard of success was bring maintained.

Before presenting the awards Mr Staite said he admired members of the nursing profession and he was sure the prizes and certificates must give them great pleasure after all their hard work. He was amazed to hear that since 1958 the pass rate had been 100 per cent and tribute was due to the immense skill and knowledge of the teaching staff.
