ONCE again taking part in Artweeks, artist Jan Harvey is opening her studio The Garden Gallery, in Shipton-under-Wychwood, from May 21-30.

Jan’s work reflect the beauty of the countryside, from the Lake District, where the light strikes the fells, to the mountain mists of Wales as well as the gentle rolling hills of the Oxfordshire Cotswolds.

Alongside the landscapes, the exhibition also features works of animals including horses, stags and fish, in a variety of mediums including acrylics, watercolours and glasswork.

“I love the countryside and when I lived in the North I was an avid fell walker”, said Jan. “I am particularly inspired by how the light affects moorlands and hills but many of my paintings for Artweeks this year feature roads and woodland locally.

“My work is very colourful and captures the moods of the seasons as well as the ordinary everyday.

“One painting depicts a rusted oil drum next to an old farm building in Kingham; its all part of what we see around us in rural areas.”

As well as painting, Jan is also a writer and runs creative workshops for The New, The Nervous and The Rusty. Details of her summer workshops will be available during Artweeks with a 10per cent discount for those who sign up during the week.

Visitors will also be invited to take part in a free prize draw with the chance to win a piece of artwork worth £100.

The gallery will be open between 12-6pm every day, and by private arrangement outside of these hours.
