THE A419 TRUNK ROAD (SWINDON) (TEMPORARY RESTRICTION AND PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC) ORDER 2017

ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984 - SECTION 14(1)(a) THE A419 TRUNK ROAD (SWINDON) (TEMPORARY RESTRICTION AND PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC) ORDER 2017

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that Highways England Company Limited (a) intends to make an Order on the A419 trunk road in the Borough of Swindon to allow resurfacing works, surveys and associated maintenance works to be carried out in safety. The works are expected to commence on or after 29 August 2017 and be completed by 22 September 2017. The effect of the Order would be to:
(a) impose a temporary mandatory 50 miles per hour speed limit on the A419:
(i) northbound from 726 metres to 2100 metres north of M4 Junction 15;
(ii) northbound from 4450 metres to 5950 metres north of M4 Junction 15;
(iii) northbound from 7450 metres to 8700 metres north of M4 Junction 15;
(iv) southbound from 1000 metres to 2350 metres south of Kingsdown Road Overbridge;
(v) southbound from 2700 metres to 3900 metres south of Kingsdown Road Overbridge;
(b) impose a temporary mandatory 40 miles per hour speed limit on the A419:
(i) northbound from 2100 metres to 4450 metres north of M4 Junction 15;
(ii) northbound from 5950 metres to 7450 metres north of M4 Junction 15;
(iii) southbound from 2350 metres to 2700 metres south of Kingsdown Road Overbridge;
(iv) the entry and exit slip roads at Dorcan Junction;
(v) the northbound entry slip road from Commonhead Roundabout;
(c) authorise the overnight closure (20.00 – 06.00) of:
(i) the A419 northbound and southbound from Commonhead Roundabout to White Heart Roundabout;
(ii) the A419 northbound from White Hart Roundabout to the A4133 Turnpike Junction;
(iii) the A419 southbound from the B4019 Lady Lane Junction to White Hart Roundabout;
(iv) the slip roads connecting to the lengths of the A419 described at (c) (i), (ii) and (iii) above;
(v) the laybys adjacent to the length of the A40 described at (c) (i), (ii) and (iii) above;
(d) authorise the closure of the sections described at (c) above over one weekend from 20.00 Friday to 06.00 Monday expected to be on 8 September 2017. During the closure described at (c) (i) above traffic would be diverted via the A4259 and A4312. During the closures described at (c) (ii) and (c) (iii) above traffic would be diverted via A4312 Oxford Road, B4006 Swindon Road, B4143 Bridge End Road and A4311 Cricklade Road. The closures (which would not apply to emergency service or works vehicles), speed limits and diversion routes would be clearly indicated by traffic signs throughout the works and would only apply when traffic management measures are in place. The Order would come into force on 27 August 2017 and have a maximum duration of 18 months.
