Sherston’s own secret seven aid blind
PETER Frost the regional appeals manager for the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association had a busy time in Malmesbury area this week.
On Tuesday he accepted a cheque for £114 in Sherston which was collected by the village’s very own Secret Seven. The children who all go to the local primary school decided to hold a garden fete in aid of the charity during their summer holidays.
Handing over the cheque was eight year old Beth Harris whose mother gave a hand with the fundraising event in their garden.
Other members of the secret society and their brothers and sisters also helped out. They were Clare and Christian Williams, Eleanor Haworth, James Harris, Nicola and Timothy Greaves and Polly Clements who has since moved from the village.
On Friday evening Mr Frost was at another cheque presentation in the area, this time at the Wheatsheaf Inn in Oaksey.
The leaseholder of the pub Alan Ditchburn handed over a cheque for £1,000 on behalf of the pub and its customers.
Mr Frost told the Standard that the money from the pub had already been put to good use and had provided a guide gog called Shandy to be the eyes for a blind person in the South West.
