Mark Wood finally struck for England after a wicketless first hour on day two of the Lord’s Test against Pakistan.
With drinks imminent Haris Sohail and Azhar Ali were looking well set to build a firm foundation for the tourists, who bowled England out for 184 on the opening day.
But as the clock ticked past midday Wood attacked off stump from around the wicket and found a thin edge on Sohail’s bat, allowing Jonny Bairstow a simple catch.
Sohail departed for 39 in 95 balls, leaving Azhar not out on 37 in a total of 87 for two.
James Anderson and Stuart Broad began the day with ball in hand but did not muster anything overly dangerous on a slowish surface.
Anderson did crash one delivery into Sohail’s ribs after back-to-back boundaries but it took the introduction of Durham paceman Wood to get England going.
