RUGBY: Cirencester RFC Phoenix team win Dursley Festival

CIRENCESTER RFC U7s, U8s and U9s travelled to the Dursley Festival on September 30 to take part in the annual tournament.

The Under 7s were unfortunate not to make their final, winning all of their group games apart from a one-try defeat to eventual winners Minchinhampton.

The Under 9s were undefeated in their group, beating Dursley, Thornbury and Minchinhampton, and drawing 0-0 with Hucclecote.

Sadly, Hucclecote had scored more tries in total and went through to the final, eventually winning 1-0.

The Under 8s entered two squads, the Flames team had some strong individual performances, but won only one of their four games. The Phoenix team won their pool with three wins and a loss in a close game with Minchinhampton.

The final was against a Stroud side who had beaten the Flames earlier by six tries to two.

Phoenix got off to a fantastic start, scoring from their first attack, but they were soon pegged back.

They then stamped their authority with some tremendous defence, causing Stroud to turn the ball over three times.

They proceeded to score tries on each occasion to turn the game around to lead by four tries to one at half-time.

The pattern continued in the second half with the Cirencester boys finishing as winners with six tries to two.

Deserved congratulations are due to all age groups on the day. Cirencester U10s, U11s and U12s are now set to play in two weeks' time.
