TWO TEENAGE Quad racing friends from Cirencester are hoping to put in the performance of their lives to gain a podium place in front of their family and friends at the British Dirt Track Championship (Round 3 of 6) at the Swindon Speedway stadium on Sunday.
Harry Timbrell and Tom Claxton have been friends for years, sharing their love of racing Quad bikes.
After entering Round 2 of the coveted QUADZILLA QRA British Quad Oval Championships at Dauntsey in April, and producing good results in 12th and tenth respectively, both are keen to move up the standings still further.
Round 3 of the series takes place at the famous Abbey Stadium, Blunsdon in an event that also has classes for MX racers, Mini Bike and Grasstrack riders.
Timbrell 18, a farmer from Cirencester, has been racing for six years, mainly in the long course endurance style racing. He won the Junior Weston Beach race in 2009.
Timbrell said: “We entered a bit into the unknown in round two but really enjoyed it. I was happy with my performance then, but we need to set our bikes up differently to compete with the other guys, as the competition is super tough.”
Claxton, who is 19 and currently studying in Cardiff, admits he and Harry have a bit of a rivalry.
“You always want to beat whoever is out there, he said. “I suppose that desire is there more when I race with Harry, although we always want each other to do well.
“It’s the first time we have both raced in a stadium so I am excited and nervous about it.”
Just eight points separate the top six in the QRA British Quad Oval Championships with Welshman Ben Richmond leading the series.
More than 40 races are scheduled. Turnstiles open at 5pm, with a 6pm first race. Bars and catering facilities will be open. Prices are: Adults £10, Concessions (Students and OAPS with ID) £7, Children 12-16 £3 and children 11 and under go free.
