Stow overcome injuries and yellow cards

Berks, Bucks & Oxon Premier.

Swindon College Old Boys 9, Stow 16.

STOW pulled off another hard-fought and impressive away win – this time at Swindon.

After an even start with neither side showing any fluency, Stow stand off Dan Adams had to leave the field with a damaged hamstring. Nick Caffero moved to outside half, with George Plumb coming in on the wing.

Soon afterwards there was further disruption when Craig Chapman was shown a yellow card for throwing a punch at a Swindon player. Swindon went for the posts and took a 3-0 lead.

Almost from the restart, Stow lock Peter Taylor kicked the ball deep into Swindon territory where Swindon were penalised for offside at the ensuing ruck. Caffero stroked the ball between the posts to level the scores.

Despite being down to 14 men, Stow started to find some rhythm and were awarded another penalty for hands in the ruck. Caffero edged Stow ahead 3-6.

Caffero then scored a try, driving over after a long Will Bevan kick downfield.

Swindon came right back at Stow and were awarded a penalty close to the posts which was successfully kicked.

Stow started the second period strongly and Plumb scored a good try in the corner after an excellent break by Caffero to make the scores 6-16.

The game now became scrappy, albeit extremely hard fought. As the game came to a close, Swindon were pressing hard and kicked a penalty, but Stow comfortably held on for a deserved win.
