IT was a good game, an enjoyable game against a decent team and a good exercise for us; the only negative side was the injuries.

We were already without Ben Pugh, who picked up a groin problem in the Bassett game and he will also miss Tuesday (against Cheltenham). We’re probably looking at Rothwell for him.

Kes (Metitiri) felt his groin stiffen and we got him off at the right time, although he shouldn’t be too bad.

Dan Thompson has had to come off after that late challenge and that could be a little bit more serious, which is a worry.

That messed up all our plans because Lee Spalding had to play 90 minutes when he wasn’t ready, but he got through it.

You could see he was rusty and there was the rash challenge that conceded the penalty, but he did a lot of good things and he is going to be a good defender for us.

Gary (Thorne) hurt his shoulder, but he is a tough character and we will assess him for Tuesday night.

Some of the link-up play, especially in the second half when Davies started driving on was as good as I’ve seen in the year and a bit I have been here.

Mattie got another goal – albeit a penalty. Let’s hope he saves a few up for when we start.

We began the first 20 minutes very well. Then they scored which rocked us a bit. Ten minutes later we regrouped, as we have more experience this year, and got the goal back.

Both teams have had chances in the second half. Tom King has made a fantastic save which shows his concentration levels and his kicking under pressure with either foot was brilliant.

That’s the best we have seen from Davies. He lasted longer. He excites people when he starts running. Heathy was good, too, and his value is that he can play in a number of positions.

Ryan (Shugar) did okay in the first half and then he tired. That is as much to do with the level of the opposition. We’ll look at him in the next two games and then make a decision.

Ton Dingle was nice and bright when he came on and worked hard We hope to have a look at a couple more players on Tuesday, which may fit well with our injuries.

I’m hoping to get a left-sided player down for the game with a view to taking him on loan from a pro club for a month.
