FORMER Cirencester 1st XI player Richard Hudson was in good company when qualifying recently as an England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) Level 4 coach.

Also passing with flying colours on the final assessment day was one-time Aussie Test bowler Jason Gillespie who has steered Yorkshire to back-to-back county championships in 2014 and 2015 and was on the short list to replace Peter Moores in the England coaching job, a role subsequently taken by Trevor Bayliss.

Another to earn his Level 4 stripes at the end of the 26-month course was Warwickshire bowling coach Alan Richardson.

Since he left Cirencester, Hudson has become head coach for the Buckinghamshire Cricket Board.

His primary tasks are to run the Player Pathway (10-17 years) and he heads the coaching for the Emerging Players Programmes (four training groups for high performing and high potential boys and girls), as well as the Boys’ U15s and Girls’ U15s county squads.
