Devizes Town Res 0 Malmesbury Vics 4

MALMESBURY Vics, whose last two games had been postponed due to the weather, ran out comfortable winners at Devizes thanks to three second half goals.

The game began at a furious pace with a skilful young Devizes side holding their own as the game flowed from end to end.

The Vics almost snatched the lead in the 22nd minute when a snap shot from Jordan Thompson was just too high.

A surging run down the right in the 34th minute by Josh Hughes saw his cross sail over the flailing hands of the keeper to nestle into the back of the net. The home stopper made amends just before the break, however, when he expertly tipped over a full blooded volley from outside the box by Sam Jenner.

With the wind at their backs in the second half, the visitors looked far more comfortable. Their lead was increased in the 53rd minute when stand-in skipper Jake Fortune crashed the ball home from the edge of the box, after good work by Sam Parker.

On 66 minutes the home side failed to clear a strike from Chris Salt and Tyler Quinnell dived in to give the Vics a three-goal cushion.

Two minutes later Joe Thornton ran on to a superb Parker through ball to blast home. Jenner was again thwarted by the home keeper, in the 74th minute as Malmesbury finished well on top.

Vics MoM: Jake Fortune.
