GLOUCESTER'S rookies conceded 10 tries in a 62-14 defeat to Michael Cheika's star-studded Barbarians line-up at Kingsholm.

Australia coach Cheika fielded a side of World Cup stars from the southern hemisphere with 573 caps' worth of international experience against a second-string team of youngsters, with predictable results.

Gloucester are in the middle of a punishing schedule of three games in six days having beaten Zebre in the European Challenge Cup on Saturday, while they travel to La Rochelle in the same competition tomorrow (Thursday).

Wallabies wing Joe Tomane touched down twice, with Fiji's Nemani Nadolo, All Blacks Nehe Milner-Skudder, Ryan Crotty and Waisake Naholo, South Africa's Lood de Jager and Pat Lambie, and uncapped New Zealanders Ardie Savea and Tawera Kerr-Barlow supplying the tries.

Gloucester flanker Dan Thomas scored an opportunist first-half effort and his side claimed a second-half penalty try when the Barbarians – who take on Argentina at Twickenham on Saturday – pulled down a driving maul.

Gloucester have named a strong side for the La Rochelle fixture but it does not include Henry Trinder who made his first appearance since suffering serious knee ligament damage in February when coming off the bench against Zebre.
