THIS week it was the turn of the Division One teams from the Cirencester League to participate in the opening round of their County Cups, writes Phil Smith.

Ashton Keynes overcame Calne Eagles 3-1 in the Wiltshire FA Junior Cup to join Oaksey who had a bye into round two.

In the Gloucestershire FA Intermediate Cup (N) Poulton had a convincing 6-1 win over Cheltenham Civil Service A, with Steve Andrews and Luke Richards netting twice.

On November 7, they will meet South Cerney who also progressed comfortably 5-1 against Whitminster Reserves thanks mainly to a Mark Loxton hat-trick.

Our other two teams did not fare so well, Bibury Reserves and Siddington Sports both going down to Rodborough and Arlingham respectively.

There were only two Division One matches in the league on Saturday but both produced interesting results.

CHQ United’s miserable season continues as they were soundly beaten by Intel who are having a fine campaign.

The win keeps Intel in touch with the division leaders and reigning champions South Cerney. Both teams meet on October 24.

The other match saw a surprise 2-1 win by Lechlade at Wroughton Town Reserves. Ollie Waite and Martin Watson scored their goals against a team which had been reduced to ten men with the dismissal of James Hogg.

In Division Two, leaders Beeches kept up their 100 per cent record by putting ten past Tetbury III without reply. Daniel Fragnoli (3) and Joe Stratford (2) and five others scored for the victors.

Siddington Vets rifled 12 past Sherston to stay in touch with The Beeches.

Oaksey Reserves and Kingshill both won their matches to stay in touch with the top places, Kingshill's narrow 3-2 win was over new club Sherborne Harriers who are still to register their first win. Stratton United also picked up three points with a 4-2 win over Minety, with top scorer Ben Collett scoring twice.
