Shortwood Utd Res 4 Purton 7

SCORING goals which had been a problem in the previous four league matches ended on Saturday as Purton romped to a 7-4 win at Shortwood United Res – and it could have been more, writes Alan Eastwood.

With regular keeper Daniel Gough injured, defender Jamie Richards donned the gloves; Dave Coleman and Sam English were also unavailable.

Purton got off to a flying start when Ryan Child laid on a goal for Joe Hiscock in the second minute.

Ben Carter and Hiscock both went close shortly afterwards and pressure eventually told on 16 minutes when Child scored after good work by Carter.

A great 25-yard free kick by Hiscock sent Purton in 3-0 up at the break.

A minute into the second half it was 4-0 when Hiscock completed his hat-trick from a Joe Dorey assist.

The home side brought on two of the club's 'first teamers' and pulled a goal back after 64 minutes through Jamie Johnson only for Purton to add a fifth when Joss Fowler broke free to net on 65.

Three minutes later Luke Bennyworth netted for Shortwood but then Carter bagged Purton's sixth in the 76th minute.

Shortwood hit back with two goals by James Singh on 78 and 86 minutes.

Fowler should have netted after another good run and Steve May went close before he did make it 7-4 two minutes from time to comprehensively end Purton's recent goal blight.

Next Saturday (3pm) Purton meet Corsham Town in the first round of the Senior Cup.
