IT was victory for Cirencester’s Kay Ransom at the Wakeboarding Grass Roots Tour event in Cornwall on Saturday.

The event which took place at Kernow Wake Park is the fifth stop on this year’s tour.

Kay competed in the Ladies' Rookie category against seven other competitors, and had three runs to impress the judge, pro wakeboarder CK Koester.

Kay, who improved on last year’s result of second place to take victory said: “This is the second year running I have entered this comp. I had a really good run, but it was a close run thing between myself and the girl who came second. I was really happy to win this year.”

The result was Kay’s second victory in as many weeks, as she took first place in the Women’s Boats Wakeboarding event held at Cotswold Ski on August 9.

Speaking about the result, she said: “It was a surprise; I have never wakeboarded on a wakeboard boat before, so I applied what I knew from cable wakeboarding and gave it a bash.

“I was talked into entering, five minutes before the competition started by a friend.”

Kay, a professional photographer, trains with coaches Steve Dyer and Charlie Marshall at WMSki Wake Park in the Cotswolds. She first took up wakeboarding in 2006, but only began competing two years ago.
