SWINDON ROBINS made it six out of six at home this season when beating league leaders Coventry Bees 47-43 in front of a bumper Blunsdon crowd and the Sky TV cameras on Tuesday night, writes Phil Rice.

The Robins trailed for much of the meeting and it was not until heat 11 that they led for the first time when Nick Morris, riding at number one for the first time, led Kyle Howarth home for a 5-1 ahead of Grand Prix star Chris Harris.

Heat 12, the second reserves' race, also went Swindon’s way as Charles Wright took his only win ahead of a livewire Jason Garrity. With improving Lewis Rose taking third place, the home side moved four points clear.

The meeting was decided at the first turn in heat 13 as Coventry’s Hans Andersen, with two wins to his name, came off taking Morris with him.

While the young Aussie was fit for the rerun, Andersen was forced to pull out of the meeting with what was thought to be a broken finger.

Morris took the win but Troy Batchelor, decidedly off colour with food poisoning, could not help Swindon over the line.

Two points were required to secure victory in the penultimate heat and the impressive Swindon guest Dakota North found Garrity coming at him on the third turn of lap three and had no choice but to bail out.

Garrity, much to the annoyance of his team manager, was excluded and North and Greg Zengota got a Swindon 5-1 to wrap up a win that early on had seemed unlikely.

The next home fixture for the Robins is not until June 18 against the Belle Vue Aces.
