THE young men of St John’s FC Cirencester have completed a league and cup double in their first season, following up a runaway victory in Cotswold Churches Football League with success in the CCFL Trophy.

In the league, the team won 19 of their 22 games to finish well clear of the opposition.

In the Trophy final, played at Evesham United, the Cirencester team held a 3-1 lead over Cheltenham Trinity at half-time, and pulled away in the second half to win 5-2.

The teams is a shared dream of Jordan Stallard and the Rev Vic Trykush, a familiar face as the former manager of the Cyber Cafe in Cirencester.

"Jordan convinced me to return to football management and from the start of our first pre-season training last July it was obvious that this bunch of lads were different," said Vic.

"Management was made easy because each and every player was motivated to achieve and there was an accountability to each other.

"Who knows what next season brings in terms of where we go from here but for now we can celebrate this wonderful achievement happy in the knowledge we've come this far unbeaten and that spirit will carry St John's FC on to even greater things I'm sure."
